Africa’s energy sector is at a crossroads. Now more than ever, the energy sector needs complete visibility, real-time monitoring, analytics, and control of energy generation, transmission, and distribution assets, including end-user consumption. While Nigeria, for example generates about 5,000MW of power, only about 4,000MW reaches distribution, and with over 35% AT&C losses, just 60% is accountably consumed. The remainder is lost to theft, aging infrastructure, and inadequate real-time monitoring of energy grid assets. This inefficiency puts immense pressure on the grid as energy demand grows with the increasing population. Today’s grid isn’t flexible enough to give utilities real-time grid visibility, analytics, and control all the way to the end customer’s energy consumption.
